Route

How does the day work?

The ranch visit leads into countryside tastings and a cave swim before your vehicle reaches Macao Beach.

  1. pass by
    1. Resort pickup points

Your safari truck or van may collect guests from several resorts before reaching the ranch. This isn't a direct transfer from every hotel.

  2. 30 min
    2. Macao buggy ranch

The ranch stop covers safety instructions and liability forms. Your vehicle is assigned here before the trail ride starts.

  3. 20 min
    3. Local plantation

The plantation visit explains how coffee and cacao are produced. Tastings give you a break from the countryside drive.

  4. 25 min
    4. El Salado cave

The El Salado cave offers a freshwater swim. Vendors here are independent and aren't part of the tour company.

  5. 25 min
    5. Macao Beach

Macao Beach is the next break from the trail. You can rinse off or spend the stop taking photos beside the water.

  6. 15 min
    6. Macao buggy ranch

The return drive brings you back to the ranch. Photos and souvenirs are available to buy while the group prepares to leave.

  7. pass by
    7. Hotel or meeting point

Your transfer returns to the hotel or assigned meeting point. Traffic and the other guests' destinations affect when you arrive.

The outward transfer takes 30 to 60 minutes depending on your hotel and the season. The cave and beach stops each last 25 minutes. The trip ends at your hotel or assigned meeting point.

Pickup and meeting point

  • Gate or meeting point: Most resorts use the security gate. Airbnb guests can use a nearby hotel gate or an assigned meeting point instead.
  • Cap Cana guests: Your meeting point is the Information Center at Cap Cana's main security gate. Travel from your accommodation to that point is your responsibility.
  • Collection window: Your time and place arrive the night before. Pickup is 60 minutes before departure and can extend to 90 minutes for distant hotels or in high season.
  • Ticket and arrival: Arrive 10 minutes early with your ticket for the driver. A missed pickup can't be rescheduled and doesn't qualify for a refund.

Before you book

  • Choose Solo Ride if you want a vehicle to yourself. The shared ticket doesn't reserve the whole buggy.

Fit

Is this tour right for you?

A pair staying in Bávaro or Uvero Alto can use the shared buggy for a 3 to 4-hour outing. You don't need a full park day. This works best if you're happy to share a vehicle and can reach the assigned resort gate.

365FlaminGO's ATV tour offers a group capped at 16, from $67.99 per person for 2 to 14. The buggy and snorkeling combo adds a reef visit by catamaran, from $129 per adult.

Means: The shared buggy is the pick for two riding together, with Solo Ride reserved for anyone who wants their own vehicle.

Who it's not for

  • Cap Cana guests unable to reach the Information Center
  • Pregnant travelers
  • Travelers with spinal injuries

Good to know

Know before you go

Who can drive

Drivers must be at least 16, and a driver's license isn't required. Children need an accompanying adult. Your child's traveler ticket doesn't make them eligible to drive before that age.

Safety gear

Helmets and safety gear are supplied and must be worn during the ride. Bring your own towel and swimwear for the stops. Your personal sun protection and professional photos aren't included.

Weather changes

Adverse weather can lead to rescheduling for safety. Trails may be dusty or muddy depending on conditions. Your rain forecast alone doesn't establish a cancellation or a refund for missing collection.

Cap Cana meeting

Cap Cana guests meet at the Information Center by the main security gate. This isn't collection from every resort lobby. Your message supplies the time for that shared meeting point.

Pickup window

Collection starts 60 minutes before departure, or up to 90 minutes for distant hotels and in high season. Arrive 10 minutes before your appointment. A missed pickup isn't refundable or eligible for rescheduling.

Ticket and booking

Bookings accept 1 to 30 travelers with an adult included. You show the driver your mobile ticket. Cancellation at least 24 hours before departure qualifies for a full refund, with no refund afterward.

People also ask

  • Do you need a license for a Canelo buggy or ATV?

No, Canelo doesn't require a driver's license for this excursion. Drivers must still be at least 16. The age rule applies even when your ticket covers a traveler who is younger and riding with an adult.

  • Can four people share one Canelo ATV?

No, the option for 3 to 4 people uses a family buggy. It isn't a four-person ATV reservation. Your choice of family vehicle should therefore be the buggy option when everyone wants to ride together.

  • Does Canelo supply a helmet for the ATV tour?

Yes, a helmet is supplied for your ATV ride and must be worn. The outing lasts 3 to 4 hours with breaks at the cave and beach. Your own sunglasses and bandana remain personal items to bring.

  • Can you book Canelo Tours on the same day?

Yes, same-day reservations are accepted. Your pickup can be 60 to 90 minutes before departure depending on location and season. Check the assigned meeting details promptly, since the activity's start time isn't your hotel collection time.
